A reduced order model for FSI of tank walls subject to wave impacts during sloshing

Loads due to wave impacts are a limiting factor in the design of liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers and their insulation. The current methodology considers load independent from response tank. Better tanks can be designed by knowing effect interaction between loads response, however predicting these effects is computationally expensive. In this paper new application non-hydrostatic shallow water equations presented, namely as reduced order model (ROM) for fluid structure impacts. Our ROM compared high fidelity model. proposed fast accurately predicts total impulse added mass, therefore general behaviour during free vibration phase. It does not always predict maximum force. considered an appropriate tool first screening which fluid-structure important, after more accurate method used evaluate most interesting cases. A sensitivity study performed various impact angles velocities, showing that importance depends highly on specific situation.
